Miss England winner launches music career with new album | Music | Entertainment

Natasha Hemmings was crowned Miss England in 2015 and went on to represent the nation in the Miss World contest in China in front of a billion viewers. Now 23, she has just graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music this summer with a Bachelor of Music degree and has released her first album, Whispers, featuring her favourite classical songs to which she has written lyrics and additional melodies. Along with the album release Natasha is also embarking on an extensive national tour this month supporting Aled Jones and Russell Watson and will perform at the London Palladium on Saturday, September 21.

Natasha told Express Online: “I have chosen some really special pieces of classical music and written poetry to them, the story I feel the music is telling.

“I think it sounds beautiful and is great for mindfulness and for taking a step out of our busy world.”

Natasha, who was born in Cheshire, has always loved music and as a child she made up songs, joined musical theatre groups and asked for karaoke machines for her birthdays.

She started piano lessons at the age of nine and when she was just 12 she joined a professional adult choir. She then joined the Junior Royal Northern College of Music for four years.

When she was 18 Natasha started at Nottingham University to study English Literature and Language, whilst waiting for her voice to develop, but struggled to make friends. Her mum encouraged her to enter the Miss Cheshire pageant.

Natasha was dismissive at first but after some research she recognised that the pageant’s ethos very closely aligned with her own.

She realised that there was a great deal of charity work involved and the competition as a whole was focused on health and fitness, building confidence, and making friends.

She says: “I was very impressed with the emphasis that they placed on the talent division and also their attitudes to charity work.”

Natasha won her regional heat and the judges were particularly impressed with her singing in the talent section. She went on to win Miss England and was then able to work with many different charitable organisations including the official Miss World charity Beauty with a Purpose which raises funds to help disadvantaged children around the globe.

Natasha then went on to compete in the Miss World pageant in China where she placed in the top five in the talent section.

It was in China that Natasha became determined to succeed in the music industry as well as in the world of Pageants.

Back home she began working on her album and returned to the Royal Northern College to complete her undergraduate studies. Now she is ready to share the results of her musical journey with the world.
