M25 traffic latest: M25 closed for eight hours after lorry crash leaves driver critical | UK | News

A lorry driver is fighting for his life after his vehicle hijacked on the busy road and crashed with two cars. The M25 motorway was shut down in both directions between Junction 9 for Leatherhead, Surrey and Junction 10 for Wisley after an air ambulance was deployed to the scene. Surrey Police said: “The lorry driver has been taken to hospital by air ambulance with life threatening injuries. The occupants of the other vehicles are not injured.

“The M25 is closed between J9 for Leatherhead and J10 for Wisley, and is likely to be closed until mid-afternoon while emergency services are at the scene and a large diesel spill is cleared. Motorists are asked to find an alternative route at this time.”

Both directions of the motorway were closed from 5am, but the anticlockwise lanes have since reopened.

Drivers are now stuck in 20-mail tailbacks after the crash left the major motorway covered in diesel.

Traffic is queuing as far back as Junction 6 (Godstone).

Highways England urged drivers to take alternative routes.

In a statement  they said: “The M25 in Surrey is closed clockwise between J8 and J10 due to a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a Heavy Goods Vehicle.

“Surrey Police, emergency services and Highways England Traffic Officers are currently in attendance.”

“The advice from Highways England is as follows: “Road users prior to the incident are advised to follow the “Hollow Triangle” diversion symbols.

“Exit the M25 at J8 (Reigate Hill Interchange). At the roundabout take the third exit on to the A217 towards London.

“At the A240 (Burgh Heath) turn left at the traffic signals on to the A240 towards Kingston.

“At the A24 (Ewell roundabout) take the third exit on to the A24 towards London.

“At Organ Crossroads follow the A240 towards Kingston. At the A3 (Tolworth Interchange) take the first exit at the roundabout on to the A3 towards Portsmouth.

“Follow the A3 to the M25 J10 (Wisley Interchange) and take the third exit at the roundabout to re-join the M25.”
